These electric motors, are operated with single-phase alternating current, that is, with only one outer conductor (phase) from the three-phase alternating current. They follow the IEC standards.
The AC motor (for alternating or three-phase current) is the workhorse of the industry. The motors are also referred to as induction motors and, depending on the design and construction, as squirrel-cage motors and TEFC (Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled) motors.
